The Sims 4 is an open world, life simulation game. It allows the player to control the protagonist and their life, including relationships and occupations. Gameplay is similar to that of its predecessor, The Sims 3. Players create a Sim character and control their life to advance in the game. The Sims 4 was announced on May 6, 2014 and was released for Microsoft Windows on September 2, 2014. Three days before release Maxis released three "game packs" for purchase; each pack has exclusive items that are only available in one of them: Outdoor Retreat (new lots), Luxury Party (clothing), Dine Out (food). A bundle for the game, called "Fun with Pets", was announced on June 8, 2014, but was not released. The Sims 4's development started after the release of The Sims 3. Since The Sims 4 allowed players to play together in multiplayer, Maxis had to work on the gameplay and the connecting feature. Dina Gallegos has worked on it since its inception and was promoted to Senior Producer in May 2013. Before the game's release, Gallegos recommended that players wait until then because Origin would be updated with "the first real offline play support", including family sharing features; however this did not happen until September 2014. Electronic Arts delayed it first several times, but released it on September 2, 2014. The Sims 4 won multiple awards including "Best Simulation Game" at Gamescom 2014. Review aggregator website Metacritic gave the game a score of 77 out of 100 based on 70 reviews, indicating mixed or average reviews. Chris Plante from Polygon gave The Sims 4 a 9.5/10 score and wrote: "This is The Sims: a blank slate, an empty canvas, and no pressure to be anything other than yourself. After nearly 15 years of stasis — this fourth major release — it's precisely what we needed." Chris Schilling from PC Gamer also gave the game a score of 81/100 and wrote: "The Sims 4's minor imperfections can't overshadow its excellent foundations. It's the most accessible, flexible, playful and creative game in the series yet." Eurogamer's Dan Whitehead gave it a score of 8/10, writing: ""The Sims 4" is accessible and easy to use. It's colourful and vibrant. Life sims fans may miss the odd oomph that made "The Sims 3" stand out, but it still offers enough to ensure that if you've been away from SimCity life simulator for a while, this will feel reasonably familiar. In many respects it feels like a reboot—albeit a slightly safe one." Jason Schreier from Kotaku wrote: "After 15 years of sequels I’ve begun to lose track of what The Sims even is anymore. It’s been a while since I’ve played the Sims 3, so The Sims 4 could have turned out to be a complete disaster. But it isn’t. It feels like a new beginning for the series." The game has sold 1 million copies worldwide within three days of release. In the United Kingdom, it sold 56% more physical copies than "The Sims 3" during its first week of release, selling 165,000 copies. Later in September 2014, Electronic Arts stated they will support The Sims 4 with game updates until at least June 2015, and will continue to produce new content after that period. cfa1e77820
